Free Movies on the beach in Waikiki "Sunset on the Beach" movie event takes place in Waikiki along Queen's Surf Beach at least one weekend per month. It's when the tourists and kama'aina (locals) alike are invited to have a picnic on the beach, watch the sunset, and then send dusk off with a movie up on the big 30-foot screen perched right on the beach! "Sunset on the Beach" takes place on weekends. But the festivities begin way before dusk. There is local entertainment that precedes the movie. People Watching in Waikiki This has got to be the best free thing to do in Waikiki, down on the beach or hanging on Kalakaua Ave grab some sushi or some plate lunch and enjoy, in the evening near the front of the International Market Place you'll find a wide assortment of street entertainers and venders and as the night goes longer the entertainment gets a little risky. The Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center Located in the heart of Waikiki. They offer free classes in hula on Monday and Friday at 10am. They teach lei making on Monday and Wednesday at 11am. You'll find lessons in playing the ukulele (10am) and Hawaiian quilting (9:30am) on Tuesday and Thursday. Go to the center for updated dates and times. Plan on showing up about 15 minutes early for the lei making lessons as class size is limited. And yes, you get to keep the lei you make. Kuhio Beach Hula Show Kuhio Banyan Tree Park on Kalakaua Avenue near the statue of Duke Kahanamoku holds a torch lighting ceremony every Saturday and Sunday from 5:30pm - 6:30pm. Featuring a Torch Lighting & Conch Shell Ceremony, authentic Hawaiian Music & Hula Show by Hawai‘i’s finest Hula Halau (troupes) & Hawaiian Performers. Weather Permitting. Lawn seating; beach chairs okay. The Changing of the King's Guard The Changing of the King's Guard, reminiscent of Hawaii's monarchy, is held nightly at the King's Village Shopping Center at 6:15pm. Located at 131 Kaiualani Avenue across from the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. |
